HORNBY-DUBLO & WRENN

VERTICAL ARMATURE MOTORS (Spinning Top)

Integral motors as fitted in the 0-6-2T, 2-6-4T, A4, Duchess, City, Bullied Unrebuilt Pacific and Scot. These motors are of excellent basic design but often lack power. This is usually due to a poor magnetic field which results in a lack of torque and overheating. Rewinding in lap mode, and remagnetising in situ results in a dramatic improvement in performance. Thicker poles to improve magnetic field can be fitted to vertical armature motors but as it may involve slight modifications to fit into bodies, we need the bodies as well. An extra charge of £10.00 is required for this service, (part of which is used for the extra postage weight).

1/2" DIAMETER OPEN FRAME MOTORS

As fitted to early Dublo Castles, 8F and later Wrenn and Dublo 0-6-0's and the integral motors fitted to the BO-BO and Brighton Belle. These are not of such good design as the armature is small and the worm(s) large resulting in most of the output being used to overcome gear friction. However, rewinding in lap and remagnetising results in a worthwhile improvement.

RINGFIELD MOTORS

These were Dublo's answer to the shortcomings of the 1/2'' type Castle and 8F motors, & also fitted to the CO-CO, CO-BO, Diesel Shunter & Southern Electric Motor Coach. Unfortunately these vary in performance and often burn out whilst attempting normal duties. Rewinding in lap & remagnetising, solves the problem and the improvement is well worthwhile.

The cost to rewind, remagnetise & service (see General Information) the Hornby Dublo & Wrenn Locos, is £18.50 plus P&P. Try not to send the body.

TRIANG XO3/4 MOTORS

Triang XO3 and XO4 motors perform well but often burn out due to a carbon build-up in the commutator slots. Rewinding, replacing the commutator and remagnetising remedies the problem. The power bogies suffer from the same problem and are similarly rectified.

The service cost for the XO3, XO4(&XT60) is £12.50,the power bogies are £15.50 plus P&P.

OTHER MAKES 'OO' Only

Other makes, including Hornby & Bachmann can be serviced from £12.50 plus parts & postage.

CAB CLEAR MOTORS

SCALESPEED manufacture a very powerful and efficient replacement "CAB CLEAR" motor for the Hornby Dublo & Wrenn ringfield fitted steam loco. This motor fits in the boiler (not on the footplate) and significantly improves the performance and appearance of the loco. Each motor is individually fitted to your engine so we need the complete loco (with body).

The cost to supply and fit the motor is £29.50+ p&p

D.C.C. CONTROL

We are now able to offer a service to modify & fit chips to most 'OO' Gauge locos so that they will run with D.C.C.

The Charge for this service is £15.50.+ cost of chip, (Hornby £12.50).+ p&p

WHEEL FITTING SERVICE

To further enhance the smooth running of your locomotives SCALESPEED offer a wheel fitting service. Prototipical ROMFORD wheels are used throughout on Drivers, Bogies, Tenders etc. All wheels are finished in matt black and are a size and style closer to scale. Drivers fitted are fully flanged and they may not negotiate tight curves. We will need complete loco with body & tender.

TRIANG WHEELS

Old course Triang drivers & power bogie wheels can be re-profiled to run on modern track (Code 100).£12.50.+ p&p.

Alternatively EMU & Diesel power bogie wheels can be replaced with Romford Nickel Silver tyred disc wheels. £22.50 + p&p

RETURN POST & PACKING CHARGES

Small detached motors £2.50.(1 charge per parcel).

Chassis with attached or integral motor £4.50.(1 charge per parcel).

GENERAL INFORMATION

Service includes checking & lubrication of motor & motion. Any minor missing or worn 'running’ parts replaced, fine tuning of brushes & pick-ups to provide maximum power.

SCALESPEED rewind H/D & Wrenn armatures in a unique way (lap) to provide more power although this maybe at the cost of top speed.

A remag is absolutely essential after removing any magnet. Measurements have shown that 70% of magnetism is lost immediately a magnet is disturbed let alone removed.

Pack Locos carefully in bubblewrap. Use a large enough box. Don't send body unless you are unsure about taking loco to pieces.

We cannot take responsibility for loss or damage in the post.

Loco's/motors will be returned by normal mail. Recorded delivery £1.00 extra. Postal charges apply to U.K. only. Please allow up to 21 days for the return of goods.

All Rewind work is guaranteed for 2 years.
